Meet Your Instructor — Drake von Trapp

Drake von Trapp is a belly dance historian, researcher, teacher, and performer recognized for his pioneering research on male belly dancers in the U.S. He holds a BA and MA in Dance and a post-master's in Multicultural Women's and Gender Studies from Texas Woman's University, and is pursuing a PhD in Performance Studies at UT Austin.

His background is an interplay of fusion and American cabaret belly dance, combined with interdisciplinary training in contemporary modern, ballet, and West African dance.

Fiery Nights & Tribal Temptations Belly Dance proudly presents the first annual HAFLA AL-ANWAR — The Festival of Lights! As Labor Day weekend is in full swing, we gather on the Schoolyard Winery patio to celebrate the ancient art of belly dance with fire, light, and community under the September stars!

Hafla Al-Anwar honors the centuries-old belly dance tradition of fire and candlelight, reimagined under the Kentucky night sky with fire props, dazzling LED performances, glowing candles, and pure belly dance artistry!

🔥 Parents please note this is a late night outdoor fire event and plan accordingly. This is an evening event featuring live fire performances and a wine and bourbon bar. Recommended for ages 16+ with parental supervision. Children under 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times. Children are always welcome in our dance community! Little ones under 6 are always free.
